Connecticut Oak Leaf Ornament

18.00

Show some love for this small state with a handmade ceramic Connecticut ornament. The oak leaf design that is carved into the clay is inspired by the Charter Oak, which is named the official state tree. Over 200 years old, the Charter oak tree fell during a storm in 1856 and remains a symbol of freedom and liberty for the colonists who fought against King Charles II in England.

Using sgraffito, a traditional Italian carving technique, the heart and oak leaf designs are carved into the hunter green underglaze, revealing the color of the clay beneath it. Once fired in the kiln, a clear glaze is applied on top and it is fired for a second time.

Each ornament is handmade by Kerri Michaud-Bagley at Heart Stone Gallery and is made exclusively for The Nutmeg Collective.

Each ornament measures approximately 3.25 " in size.
